Jessica Pegula shared her thoughts on how American fans react to her following her trip to the US Open final.

The 30-year-old was struggling to break through at Grand Slam level after losing six successive quarter-finals.

That finally changed at Flushing Meadows in 2024, and not only did she win her last eight contest against Iga Swiatek, Pegula went on to reach her first major final.

But she faced the biggest challenge on tour, beating Aryna Sabalenka on hard courts and she succumbed to a 5-7, 5-7 loss. Despite Pegula’s US Open final defeat, she certainly won in other aspects of tennis.

Jessica Pegula comments on American fans and how they see her after US Open final run

Pegula aimed to become the next woman to win the US Open title, but just fell short.

Though she did not leave New York with the championship, Pegula won many more fans after her performance and achieved her best run at a major to date.

The World number four fed off the energy she received from her home fans last summer, which also included a run to the Cincinnati Open final and again lost to Sabalenka.

In the leadup to the Indian Wells Masters, Pegula commented on how the fan support changed after a successful US Open not only for her, but American players in general. “Even before that run I felt like coming to the US. I have always had so much support,” she said.

“But I think definitely after that tournament there’s so many people watching the US Open over those two weeks and the Americans were doing really well. And I think now there’s definitely a lot more excitement from fans.

“I think that’s really cool because in the US there’s so many sports that are really popular but when you can do well at the biggest tennis event we have in the country, I think that definitely drew a lot of attention to me.

“Even though I was already doing well before, but that whole kind of summer swing into that final I’ve definitely noticed a lot more fan excitement.”

Jessica Pegula aims for Indian Wells success

After a disappointing Australian Open and Middle East campaign, Pegula returned to the United States and competed at the ATX Open.

Pegula claimed the title in Texas without dropping a set, which is her first championship win of the 2025 tennis season.

Now Pegula hopes to carry that form into Indian Wells, a title she is aiming to win for the first time.

She will commence her campaign against Magda Linette, a player who Pegula has won her previous two matches against.
