Jessica Pegula has continued her impressive start to the 2025 WTA season after winning the Charleston Open.

Pegula beat Sofia Kenin in a historic final at the Charleston Open, enabling her to match a career-high ranking of world number three and overtake Coco Gauff as the American number one.

Despite winning the final in straight sets, Pegula overcame some struggles against Kenin to be able to lift the title.

As a result of winning her first clay court title, Pegula has achieved something that her closest WTA rivals have been unable to do yet.

Jessica Pegula completes achievement Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff cannot match

Pegula’s Charleston Open victory completes the set for her, having also won titles on both hard and grass courts.

The 31-year-old has only won eight titles in comparison to world number one Aryna Sabalenka with 19, Iga Swiatek on 22, while the aforementioned Gauff has nine.

Unlike Pegula, neither Sabalenka, Swiatek or Gauff have won a title on a grass court.

Sabalenka has come the closest to achieving this, having lost grass court finals in Eastbourne (2018) and Hertogenbosch (2022).

Despite not finding much success on grass courts on the WTA Tour, Swiatek did win the Wimbledon junior singles title in 2018.

While Gauff, who made her breakthrough at Wimbledon in 2019 as a 15-year-old, has been unable to surpass the semi-finals of any main tour event on grass since then.

Active WTA players to win a title on every surface

Pegula is now the 14th active WTA singles player to have won a title on every surface, joining some surprising names on this list.

The Charleston Open has been a popular spot to complete this accomplishment, with Pegula now matching Madison Keys and Belinda Bencic to have done so.

Three players joined the list last year in Daria Kasatkina, Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova and Diana Shnaider.

Shnaider was the most surprising of those, as she had not won a single WTA title on any surface before the 2024 season.

Although both Venus Williams and Vera Zvonareva have also achieved this feat and are not officially retired, they are both considered inactive due to their lack of recent competition.

Other than Sabalenka, Swiatek and Gauff, some of the other players who need one more title to join the list are Qinwen Zheng (grass), Victoria Azarenka (grass), Mirra Andreeva (grass), Marketa Vondrousova (hard) and Katie Boulter (clay).
