It was a quieter week on the WTA Tour after the US Open, but teenage sensation Iva Jovic still made it a week to remember.
At just 17 years of age, Jovic has won her first tour-level title at the WTA 500 event in Guadalajara.
The American has been a big prospect for some time, having impressed on the junior scene before transitioning to the main tour.
After beating Emiliana Arango in the final, Jovic has received a big reaction to her maiden WTA title triumph.

Jovic won the final against Arango, who was struggling with illness, in straight sets, but it was not always straightforward for the American teenager.
In fact she actually had to save a match point in her quarterfinal against Andorran Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva.

Jovic has received many messages of support since her Guadalajara victory, including from compatriots Danielle Collins and 2024 US Open finalist Jessica Pegula.
Collins suggested that she knew this was coming after writing on her Instagram story, “The first of many @iva_jovic07 (love heart and trophy emojis).”

Pegula shortly followed up with a message of her own, simply writing, “Congrats @iva_jovic07!!”
Jovic actually responded to the world number seven, writing, “Thank you (love heart hand emoji).”

What will happen to Iva Jovic’s ranking after winning the Guadalajara Open?
As the messages of congratulations continue to flood in for Jovic, she is now rewarded with a huge jump up the WTA rankings.
Before this year, Jovic had not won a single WTA Tour-level match and was ranked at world number 191.
However, she has made huge leaps of progress since then and was already at a career-high of world number 73 before the Guadalajara Open even began.
After winning her first WTA title, Jovic has gained 500 ranking points and has climbed 37 places up to world number 36.

Jovic is the youngest player inside the top 50 and will now likely have her sights set on being seeded for the Australian Open next year.
She is next scheduled to compete at the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing, which begins on Wednesday, September 24.
