Alexander Zverev won his match against Jaume Munar at the Davis Cup Finals, but it was not enough as Spain beat Germany to reach the final.
Zverev made a U-turn on previous comments about the Davis Cup, as he signed up for the Finals for the first time since the event was overhauled.
In his return to the Germany squad, Zverev overcame the threat of Francisco Cerundolo to help his nation reach the semifinal.
Zverev admitted he was struggling after beating Munar as well, with the Spaniard now suggesting two weaknesses that he thinks the world number three can still improve on.

Jaume Munar suggests what he thinks Alexander Zverev’s biggest weaknesses are
It has been a breakthrough season for Munar this year, having shown some impressive results which have enabled him to reach a career-high ranking of world number 36.
Munar had also beaten Zverev before, but he was narrowly edged out in their match at the Davis Cup Finals, being beaten 7-6(2) 7-6(5).
When attending his post-match press conference after his defeat, Munar was asked what he thinks Zverev’s weaknesses are.
Although Munar was very complimentary towards Zverev, he suggested that the forehand and his passive nature could need some improvement.
“First of all, the tour now, it’s so close for everyone,” answered Munar. “The daily matchup, you see how it goes.
“Sascha, of course, is a very, very top player. At the end of the year everybody is saying that he did not play the best tennis during the year. But he’s 4 or 3 in the world right now, so imagine.
“It was close today because everything is close. Let’s put in another side, maybe Jannik [Sinner] and Carlos [Alcaraz]. All of the rest, I think we are playing face to face anyone.
“Of course, he can struggle a little bit with the forehand sometimes. He can be a little passive. But he has an incredible weapon, which is the serve.
“I don’t know, matches are like this. I feel like any matchup now in the tour, it’s pretty much the same. It’s very close because the level is high. Of course, we have two guys on top of that. The rest, I think we fight each other.”
Although Zverev beat Munar, Spain got the decisive doubles victory to beat Germany and will now face Italy for the Davis Cup title.
Will Alexander Zverev ever win a Grand Slam title?
How does Alexander Zverev’s 2025 season compare to 2024?
It has been a mixed season for Zverev, who reached the Australian Open final earlier this year, where he lost to Jannik Sinner.

Zverev has once again finished the season ranked inside the world’s top three, and has matched his best Grand Slam result from 2024.
However, there have been some notable regressions in Zverev’s results this year, as he has lost more matches than he did in 2024, despite actually playing fewer.
| Alexander Zverev’s Season | 2024 | 2025 |
| Year-end ranking | No.2 | No.3 |
| Win-loss Record | 68-20 (77.3%) | 57-25 (69.5%) |
| Titles won | 2 (Italian Open & Paris Masters) | 1 (BMW Open – Munich) |
| Best Grand Slam result | French Open final | Australian Open final |
Zverev has also won fewer titles than he did last year, with his only trophy lift in 2025 coming at the ATP 250 tournament in Munich.
The 28-year-old will now go into his off-season, before Zverev starts his 2026 season at the United Cup.
