Jannik Sinner explained how his life has changed both on and off the court since becoming the World number one.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a stellar 2024 season in which he won his first Grand Slam title and became just the 29th man to reach the top of the ATP rankings.

Sinner captured the Cincinnati Open title on Monday which is his fifth championship and second Masters 1000 crown this season.

The Italian now heads to New York on a mission to win the US Open title for the first time.

What has changed for Jannik Sinner since becoming the World number one?

On June 10, a day after the French Open final, Jannik Sinner became the World number one for the first time.

He has remained in the spot since then and he seems to be handling the pressure that comes with being the ATP’s top-ranked player exceptionally well.

But after Sinner defeated Frances Tiafoe to win the Cincinnati Open title, he explained how he is trying to change his game since becoming the World number one.

“It has changed a little bit. A little bit different pressure on you. But in my mind I know I have to improve some things against certain players, where I struggle a lot,” Sinner said.

“This is always in my mind in every practice session that I have to improve and what I have to improve, trying to understand what works best in every situation.

“This keeps you waking up in the morning trying to do better and I’m also glad these players are there which cause you trouble and you have to find the solutions.

“Every tournament is different, so let’s see how we prepare for New York. The first match will be tough as well but then let’s see what we can do.”

Can Jannik Sinner remain World number one at the US Open?

Sinner is enjoying being the World number one but his friend and rival Carlos Alcaraz is breathing down his neck.

The Italian is aiming to finish the season as the Year-End number one and he currently has 7,400 ranking points. But Alcaraz, the World number three, has 5,715, while second-ranked player Novak Djokovic has 5,960.

Djokovic lost 1000 points after choosing not to defend the Cincinnati Open title. But Alcaraz put himself right in contention following his French Open and Wimbledon victories.

Should the Spaniard have a strong US Open and should Sinner fail to at least match that, the 21-year-old will be within striking distance of claiming the number one ranking before the end of the season.
