Jannik Sinner has enjoyed yet another scintillating season on the ATP Tour and has finally brought it to an end.

For a player, there is no better way to conclude a year than by winning the ATP Finals. This is now the second consecutive campaign where the Italian has accomplished this feat.

Alongside Carlos Alcaraz, this duo has dominated men’s tennis for the past two years. Frustratingly for the rest of the chasing pack, they only seem to be extending their lead too.

How many Grand Slam titles will Jannik Sinner win in 2026?

However, what makes this duo such a frightening prospect is the fact that they are only getting better.

Jannik Sinner, taking to Instagram after winning the ATP Finals just yesterday, has sought to review the last 11 months of action as he calls time on a special season.

The 24-year-old won two Grand Slam titles and the end-of-year showpiece tournament, yet sadly finished just shy of being the year-end world number one.

Naturally, that accolade was reserved for Alcaraz, who was good value for such a prestigious honour.

These two have shared the limelight for so long now and have equally been responsible for one another’s greatest highs and most crushing defeats.

Sinner appeared to touch on this in his end-of-season statement, writing on social media: “A special year with highs and lows, but full of gratitude for the people around me. Couldn’t do it without this team. One of the best weeks of the year, thank you for the support and all the hard work. Time for a little break now.”

The progress made over the last 12, and even three months, has been visible for the Italian. In fact, his coach Darren Cahill claimed Sinner had grown even closer to Roger Federer in one area as he prepares to maintain his breakneck upward trajectory.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz’s rivalry needed this ATP Finals result

Whilst Alcaraz might disagree, it’s true that his rivalry with Sinner needed a win in the opposite direction.

After all, the two have shared almost every event where at least one of them was present, but the head-to-head was skewing quite dangerously in the Spaniard’s favour.

Before the ATP Finals, he had won seven of their last eight matches. Had he won last night, that would swiftly have become eight of their last nine.

It would not have been a good look for their rivalry, with many starting to compare it to some of the most legendary of all time.

Whilst it is just a small step in the right direction, Sinner’s win feels like it restored parity within this relationship.

It makes for the perfect foundation for another year of fierce competition, where either superstar truly could beat the other on any given day.
