Jannik Sinner showed some signs of concern in the Vienna Open final, despite winning the title.

Sinner beat Alexander Zverev to win the Vienna Open for the second time in his career, lifting his 22nd career title.

This was the Italian’s first ATP tournament since the Shanghai Masters, where Sinner retired due to cramping against Tallon Griekspoor.

Problems with cramping appeared to return against Zverev, and now Sinner has confirmed how he is feeling after winning the Vienna Open title.

Jannik Sinner responds after being asked about why he cramped in the Vienna Open final

Sinner beat Zverev, 3-6 6-3 7-5, and he appeared to be particularly struggling with his cramping in the first set of the match.

When asked about this in his post-match press conference, as reported by Ubitennis, Sinner suggested that the pressure of playing in a final played a part in it, but it was nothing to be too concerned about.

Sinner also explained that what happened to him at the Shanghai Masters also enabled him to be able to overcome his cramping.

“I think you always feel a little more pressure in a final,” said Sinner. “I had some cramps, very, very small. What happened in Shanghai definitely taught me something. This time it wasn’t as intense; otherwise it wouldn’t have been possible.

“I served pretty well, and that gave me the energy to play good tennis again on return games. Physically, I feel good. I moved well at the end, too. So everything’s fine. I’m a little tired, as was Sascha at the end. That’s normal. It’s been a very intense and long week. I’m very, very happy.”

Cramping was not the only thing that he had to overcome in Vienna, as Sinner faced backlash after choosing not to represent Italy at the Davis Cup.

Jannik Sinner’s potential run to the title at the Paris Masters

With Sinner’s positive fitness update, it does not appear likely that he would follow Novak Djokovic by withdrawing from the Paris Masters.

The world number two is currently on a 21-match winning streak on indoor hard courts, but the Paris Masters is by far Sinner’s worst ATP 1000 tournament.

Sinner has never surpassed the third round in his three previous appearances, and he will be looking to greatly improve on that this year.

Sinner is the second seed at the Paris Masters, and after receiving a bye to the second round will play either Alex Michelsen or Zizou Bergs in his opening match.

Some of the big threats in his half of the draw include the aforementioned Zverev, Ben Shelton, Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev.

If Sinner is able to overcome these players, he could face another final against his rival Carlos Alcaraz.
