Jannik Sinner dominated Alexander Zverev in three sets to take home his second Australian Open title.
Fans anticipated a thrilling clash on Rod Laver Arena as the ATP’s top two players faced off for the title.
It wasn’t to be, however, as Sinner proved too good for his German opponent, comfortably beating him, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
Zverev wasn’t given many opportunities during the match, but was arguably too passive in the big moments, as he lost yet another Major final.
The Italian’s performance capped off a stunning Australian Open title defense, where he dropped just two sets all tournament.
After the match, Sinner revealed what his gameplan was going into his second-straight Melbourne final.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Sinner gave his thoughts on how he approached the final.
“I felt like how I entered the court trying to be quite aggressive in the beginning, this gave me then the confidence that I feel the ball in a certain way,” he said.
“I felt like I was in the beginning of the match serving really well and trying to get into the zone very fast, it was very high-quality from my side.”
Sinner went on to explain how he managed to stay focused after failing to convert break points during the second set.
“I had the chances in the second set with a couple of break points,” he said.
“He always served very well there.
“But it’s trying to stay always there mentally, trying to play every point in the best possible way.
“Tiebreak, got a bit lucky there, but how I handled every situation on the court, not only today in the final, but in general was very nice.”
The Italian then said how pleased he was with his tournament as a whole, having won his third Grand Slam title.
“Well, it was an amazing performance from my side,” he said.
“All things considered, amazing run again here in Australia, I’m extremely happy.
“Sharing this with the team here and family and the people I love, it’s amazing.”

Tennis fans often use Grand Slam titles as a way to measure the success of different players’ careers in tennis.
Sinner’s latest Major title has put him level with Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka on three, as he continues to chase down Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic.

Thanks to Sinner’s win at the ATP Finals in 2024, and his four Masters 1000 titles, it’s perhaps fair to say that he moved ahead of Wawrinka with his victory over Zverev on Sunday.
Djokovic’s records are some way off in the distance, but he’ll certainly be looking to win a fourth Major later this year to go level with Alcaraz on four.
The Italian and Spaniard have shared the last five Major titles, establishing themselves as the two best players at the Grand Slam level over the past 12 months.

Alcaraz won both the French Open and Wimbledon last year, the two Major titles Sinner has yet to add to his collection.
The 21-year-old beat Djokovic for the second year running at SW19 to win Wimbledon last year, as he collected his fourth Grand Slam title.
Sinner will be hoping to get his hands on some silverware in Paris and London later this year, as he looks to continue his Major winning form.
Grand Slam tennis will return at the French Open, which begins on Sunday, May 25.
