Jannik Sinner has made history after winning Indian Wells for the first time in his career.

Sinner had made a relatively poor start to the 2026 season, and there were concerns that he would be left behind by Carlos Alcaraz.

However, the four-time Grand Slam champion has proved these suggestions wrong at Indian Wells by winning the title for the first time.

After Sinner beat Daniil Medvedev 7-6(6), 7-6(4) it confirmed that he had achieved a feat that no other man in history has before on the ATP Tour.

Jannik Sinner makes history after back-to-back Masters 1000 title wins

While this is the first title Sinner has won in 2026, he has won back-to-back Masters 1000 titles after his Indian Wells victory.

The last ATP 1000 tournament prior to Indian Wells was at the Paris Masters, where Sinner won the title after beating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final.

Sinner did not drop a set at the Paris indoor tournament last year, and he has continued his dominant form at Indian Wells, where he has also won all of his matches in straight sets.

As a result, Sinner has become the first men’s tennis player in history to win back-to-back Masters 1000 events without dropping a set, since they were introduced in 1990.

Although he has now made tennis history, Sinner was actually at big risk of this record not happening against Medvedev, as he came from 4-0 down in the second set tie-break.

The Italian also saved three set points in his fourth round match against Joao Fonseca.

How many Grand Slam titles will Jannik Sinner win in 2026?

Jannik Sinner becomes the youngest player to win all hard court Masters 1000 titles

Not only is Sinner the first player to win back-to-back Masters titles without dropping a set, but he has also now won all six of the hard court events at ATP 1000 level.

At just 24 years and 200 days old, Sinner is the youngest player to achieve this feat, with Roger Federer the previous record holder at 30 years old.

Sinner has also become just the second player to win all six of their first Masters 1000 titles at different tournaments, with his Indian Wells final opponent Medvedev the first player to do this.

Sinner will now return to the Miami Open for the first time since he won the title two years ago, with the main draw getting underway on Wednesday, March 18.
