Having previously been told that, should the 22-year-old continue to force his way through matches he could do irreversible damage to his hip, it was widely expected that Sinner might miss Roland Garros.
After all, given his youth, such a risk seemed foolish.
He will have plenty more opportunities to challenge for that title, and thus that was that.
Until, he took to X just yesterday, to publish a photo of him training on clay courts with a caption including a French flag and an hourglass with the time slipping away.
Clearly not resting the hip anymore, with his Rome absence enough in their eyes, Sinner is already back on court and seemingly preparing to star in the French Open.
This marks a confusing message given the alternative reports we have read, but a positive injury update nevertheless as the world number two nears a return to fitness.
Should he be back to his full health, or at least close to it, he could provide the much-needed star power to fill the power vacuum currently expected to appear at this Grand Slam.
