Jannik Sinner is very much the leading player on the ATP Tour right now, having taken over the mantle from Carlos Alcaraz.

Alcaraz dominated the early stages of the 2026 ATP season, winning both the Australian Open and the Qatar Open.

And while he is still the world number one, Sinner is currently the in-form player after winning Indian Wells and the Miami Open.

Sinner didn’t drop a set at the Sunshine Double, with his record for the season now standing at 19 wins and two defeats.

And his form has caught the eye of three-time WTA champion Alison Riske-Amritraj, who believes it stems from his 2025 French Open final loss to Alcaraz.

Jannik Sinner hailed for becoming ‘extra aggressive’

Speaking on The Big T Podcast, she said of Sinner: “He overtook [Novak] Djokovic’s record where he won 34 straight sets at 1000 events and that is just an unbelievable feat.

“He is playing I think some of the most aggressive tennis we have seen.

“I actually take it back to when he lost Roland Garros last year. He had that quick turnaround and won Wimbledon.

“I know he has lost to Alcaraz since then in very close matches as well, but I really think he has been extra aggressive since that Roland Garros loss last year.

“We are now seeing some absolutely dominant tennis from him, especially on hard surfaces. He is nearly untouchable.”

It has indeed been a stunning run from Sinner, who will soon turn his focus to another ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

He’ll very shortly line out at the Monte Carlo Masters, where his fierce rival Alcaraz will also be involved.

What is Jannik Sinner’s career record on clay courts?

There is very little time for Sinner to celebrate his phenomenal Sunshine Double success, with the calendar rapidly turning to Monte Carlo.

Like his ATP rivals, the Italian must make the difficult transition from hard courts to clay courts, although his confidence will be sky high thanks to his latest efforts.

Sinner also has the added bonus of home advantage at the event, with the 24-year-old currently residing in Monaco.

Clay has, however, been his least successful surface throughout his glittering career.

Remarkably, just one of his 26 career titles has arrived on the surface, compared to 23 on hard courts and two on grass.

Epitomizing that is the fact that the French Open is the only Grand Slam that he has yet to win.

In stark contrast, Alcaraz boasts a huge 11 titles on clay, including two at the French Open, while he’s also the Monte Carlo defending champion.
