Jannik Sinner has battled his way into the second round of the Australian Open after a hard-fought win over Nicolas Jarry.

Sinner was happy with the Australian Open crowd in his first round match, where the ATP number one met the number 36.

Aryna Sabalenka thinks Sinner will win the Australian Open, with both number ones looking to defend their titles in Melbourne.

And after beating Qinwen Zheng and Daniil Medvedev respectively in last year’s finals, both players are now into this year’s second round.

Sinner now faces Australian Tristan Schoolkate in round two, having overcome Jarry 7-6(2), 7-6(5), 6-1 at Rod Laver Arena.
