With Wimbledon just around the corner, Novak Djokovic is not alone in his desperate bid to be fit for the prestigious competition.

After all, across the last week or so, a whole host of star names have suffered injuries that could see them miss Wimbledon.

Therefore, once again this promises to be a wide-open draw, and even the women’s side could see Iga Swiatek’s monopoly ended due to her historic struggles on grass.

However, should Djokovic make it, instantly he becomes one of the favourites in the men’s draw, as one of the greatest champions in the history of the competition.

Seeking to reaffirm his efforts to keep fit, he has now joined forces with Jannik Sinner just days before the tournament starts to try and regain fitness.

The latest on this link-up comes courtesy of La Gazzetta dello Sport, who have sought to preview the Wimbledon draw, expected tomorrow.

With Sinner and Djokovic to be placed on opposite sides of the draw, due to their current positions as first and second seeds, the only potential meeting between the two in the tournament must come in the final.

However, it seems that both in an effort to prepare for that eventuality and get up to speed, later today the two will actually practice together at Wimbledon.

Djokovic admitted that he would only play if he thought he could win, and the fact that he has not yet pulled out, despite tearing the meniscus in his right knee less than a month ago at Roland Garros, is miraculous.

This marks yet another superhuman feat from the 37-year-old, who will have grand ambitions of winning both in SW19 and Paris, where he travels for the Olympics too.

Novak Djokovic will want to end his career in style

Given Djokovic gave fans a retirement hint quite recently, a thought that would have never even crossed anyone’s mind after his exploits last year, it does feel like we are entering the twilight of this legendary career.

And so, he will have grand ambitions of calling time on his playing days in the most sensational fashion, in-keeping with the levels he has retained for nearly two decades now.

There is arguably no greater way for him to bow out than having won a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title and the Olympics, the one major title that is missing from his trophy cabinet.

Whilst he would likely not retire on the spot should he achieve such a feat, it would make this exit from the game a much easier decision for him to make.

And despite his fitness struggles, we have seen Djokovic pull off more legendary feats than this. You can never write off a player of his calibre.
