The stage is set for Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz as they contest for the final Grand Slam of the year at the US Open on Sunday night.

There were contrasting fortunes for the players in their semifinal matches, with Alcaraz coming through in straight sets against Novak Djokovic and Sinner being made to work in four against Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Alcaraz sent a warning to Sinner with his dominant semifinal showing and it will be the third time in succession that these two players have contested the final of a Grand Slam.

Sinner’s coach provided a fitness update after he required treatment in his semifinal clash, and it feels like a worrying time for the world number one.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz prepare differently for US Open final

Today represents the final time that a match will be played at a Grand Slam event until January and ultimately, it promises to be a cracker once again.

The pair will prepare in very different ways, however, with sports journalist German R. Abril confirming that Sinner won’t spend time on the practice courts before the match.

Alcaraz spent time on Court 2 yesterday in a final session before the match, but it would appear that Sinner was still feeling the ill effects from the abdominal injury he needed treatment for against Auger-Aliassime.

Sinner can bounce back to beat Alcaraz tonight

Sinner went into a match against Ben Shelton at Wimbledon nursing some injury concerns, but came out and thrashed the American.

He will be under no illusions that playing Alcaraz at anything less than 100% will be hard work, but ultimately, he will give everything he’s got against the Spaniard.

At this stage of a Grand Slam, it’s almost impossible to go into every match at full pelt and given Sinner’s brilliance, he will still be fully equipped to try and beat Alcaraz.

Both players have won this title before and after winning in 2024, Sinner won’t want to relinquish control of the title he worked so hard to win against his fierce rival.
