When Grigor Dimitrov finishes playing tennis he might look back at what could have been.
Although the Bulgarian star has enjoyed some really good runs at Grand Slam events, he’s never quite managed to get over the line.
His best run at the Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon is the last four, with Dimitrov’s best at Roland Garros the quarter-final he achieved this year.
Make no bones about it, Dimitrov can play. Right now, he’s in Turin where is the first alternate should any of the competitors be unable to compete.
With Carlos Alcaraz skipping training this week, it was anticipated that he might be needed – but that does feel unlikely at this stage.
There is still a little bit of 2024 left to go but for Dimitrov things are starting to settle down.
It will represent another year as a top 10 performer and ultimately, that has to be considered a successful year.

Jamie Delgado confirms Grigor Dimitrov plans
For professional tennis stars, the hard work doesn’t really stop.
Dimitrov will be looking to quickly get into the swing of things next year and it would appear he’s going to leave no stone unturned.
It would appear that Delgado is going to be with him all the way again next year and he’s shared Dimitrov’s plans to Sky Sports Tennis.
He said: “We have a debrief of the season on Saturday in Monaco with the team. Then back to London for a couple of weeks. Then the off-season starts again, we’re in Dubai in December. Rule number one is that I’m still here!
“He is looking like he is going to finish number 10 in the world, it would have been nice to play here, but number 10 in the world is his second-best season ever so it’s been a good season.”
Dimitrov will remain professional until the end
At 33-years-old, Dimitrov’s hopes of winning a Grand Slam have probably been extinguished.
However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t still capable and as a top 10 player he will still fancy his chances of causing upsets next year.
At the US Open, he enjoyed a run to the quarter-final and actually knocked out number six seed Andrey Rublev along the way.
His best tournament in 2024 definitely came in March at the ATP 1000 event in Miami.
Dimitrov lost out to Jannik Sinner in the final but defeated Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev to set up the match with the Italian.
The experienced performer can still play and the challenge for 2025 is to stay fit and be ready to give the very best players a run for their money once again.
