Jack Draper is the highest seed to exit the men’s singles draw at the US Open so far, but he was not beaten on the court.

Draper had been struggling with an arm injury after Wimbledon, and had not played a single tournament after the grass court major.

Despite this, Draper was able to return for US Open mixed doubles with Jessica Pegula and also came through his first round singles match against Federico Agustin Gomez.

However, it appears that all was not actually well for the Briton, with Draper now withdrawing from the US Open due to that arm issue.

Zizou Bergs’s father sends heartfelt message to Jack Draper after his US Open withdrawal

Draper’s withdrawal confirms that Belgian player Zizou Bergs has reached the third round of the US Open for the first time.

Less than an hour after Draper posted a statement confirming his withdrawal, the Bergs’ father actually took to social media to explain how disappointed he was about the match no longer going ahead.

Koen Bergs went on to pay tribute to Draper, speaking about his previous meetings with the Briton when he played Zizou on both the Challenger Tour and at Wimbledon.

He wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Really feeling sorry for you @jackdraper0 I was looking forward to the match against Zizou.

“I have met you for the first time in France where you played the final of a Challenger against Zizou and than later in Wimbledon where you met Zizou in R1. Very nice meetings with big tennis.

“You made huge progress in a fast way and your team was always very positive about Zizou, which we really appreciate. Take care and recover well. And this third meeting will certainly come sooner or later.”

What is next for Jack Draper?

Draper reached the US Open semifinals last year, and after exiting the tournament at the second round stage will now drop a huge 750 ranking points.

With his Grand Slam season now over for 2025, it is unclear as to what the immediate future holds for Draper.

Draper’s next scheduled tournaments are in Asia, as he is entered into the ATP 250 event in Chengdu, beginning in just over two weeks’ time, and the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo.

Not only will Draper want to return to fitness as soon as possible, he will also have his eyes set on qualifying for the ATP Finals for the first time.

After Draper won Indian Wells, he currently sits at seventh in the race to the year-end tournament, but could be out of the top eight spots after the conclusion of the US Open.
