Jack Draper parted ways with his coach of four years, James Trotman, last month.

Prior to the split, Draper appointed Jamie Delgado as his new head coach, who previously worked with Andy Murray and Grigor Dimitrov.

Soon after, Trotman left the British number one’s team completely, explaining that he was finding it hard to juggle the demands of coaching, while also being a father and a husband.

The 46-year-old told BBC Sport in October: “I need to start to get those energy levels back up and have a little bit more normality, watch my son play football on a Sunday, go on some family holidays, have a bit more of a normal life.”

Now, a month after ending their player-coach relationship, Draper took to social media to send a message to Trotman.

In a post on Instagram, the 23-year-old said: “Way more than a coach. You’re a special man @james.trotman. What a chapter.”

Trotman guided Draper to a career-high ranking of fourth in the world, as well as a maiden ATP Masters 1000 title at the 2025 Indian Wells Open.

In his corner, he also helped the young star achieve his best finish at a Grand Slam event at the 2024 US Open, in which Draper reached the semifinals before bowing out to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.

Draper has been out of action since the US Open, having ended his season early due to an arm injury, which he initially sustained at Wimbledon.

At the All England Club in the summer, he lost to Marin Cilic in the second round, before announcing he would miss the majority of the North American hard-court swing due to bone bruising in his arm.

Jamie Delgado’s record as a tennis coach over the years

Draper’s new coach, Delgado, has worked with some big names during his career as a coach and has enjoyed some success.

Following a stint with Gilles Muller, Delgado became the assistant coach of Murray and was in his team when the legend clinched his second Wimbledon title in 2016.

He also coached him to the 2016 ATP Finals championship, the 2017 Dubai Tennis Championships crown, and the 2019 European Open title in Antwerp.

Delgado then had a brief spell with Canadian star Denis Shapovalov in 2021, before being appointed by Dimitrov, who he worked with from 2022 to 2025.

The Briton will now look to build on Draper’s success going forward when he returns to tour-level competition in 2026.
