Jack Draper decided not to message Jannik Sinner after his heartbreaking defeat in the Roland Garros final.

Sinner was beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final, despite leading by two sets to love and having three championship points.

Lasting almost five and a half hours, the match between Sinner and Alcaraz has been labelled one of the best Grand Slam finals in history.

The defeat has admittedly been tough to take for Sinner, and now world number five Draper has revealed why he has not messaged the world number one.

Jack Draper reveals why he did not message Jannik Sinner after Roland Garros

Draper has been a supporter of Sinner during his ban from the ATP Tour, and actually practiced with the Italian ahead of his return to the match court at the Italian Open last month.

The Briton lost in the fourth round of the Paris major to Alexander Bublik, and has now switched his attention to the grass court season.

When speaking to the media ahead of the Queen’s Club Championships, Draper was asked about Sinner and whether he had reached out to him following his Roland Garros final defeat.

While he admittedly thought about it, Draper decided not to as he did not want to overwhelm Sinner and would speak to him when he next sees him.

Draper also spoke about closing the gap on Sinner and Alcaraz, something that he has suggested is a goal of his.

“I actually I was going to reach out to him, but I think, you know, it’s one of those where as a player, you know that after the big final you’re gonna have a lot of messages,” said Draper.

“And I think sometimes that can be a little bit, even though it’s really nice to get support, I think it’s nice to also understand that they’re going to have to deal with a lot of messages, a lot of things going on and, you know, I’ll give him my support for sure when I see him.

“I’ll tell him how amazing he did, how proud I am, and how, you know, he’s going to go and win that title and many more times, I’m sure.

“So, I think even though someone lost in that match, it was an incredible match, and something that’s going to go down in history, and he’s going to be a part of that.

“And, yeah, I’m obviously very proud to be here [at Queen’s] to be the number two seed. You know, I’ve come a long way since I played Jannik here in 2021 and I’m really, really proud of the position I’m in and how my tennis is improving with the team I’ve got around me.

“And, you know, those two guys are really setting the way, like I said, so I look forward to chasing them down and really working as hard as I can to get to the point where I’m, you know, with them.”

Jack Draper vs Jannik Sinner Head-to-head

Although Sinner has achieved more than Draper at this stage of their respective careers, their head-to-head is actually level.

Draper won the aforementioned meeting with Sinner at the Queen’s Club Championships in 2021, doing so in two tie-break sets.

While Sinner beat Draper at the US Open last year to draw level, before going on to win the title.

Draper will be the second seed at Queen’s this year, as he takes on American Jenson Brooksby in the first round.

While Sinner has elected to play in Halle instead of Queen’s, where he is the top seed and defending champion.
