Iga Swiatek is back in training ahead of another season on the WTA Tour, with the Australian Open rapidly approaching.

Swiatek is a six-time Grand Slam champion, but the 24-year-old has yet to taste success at the Australian Open.

The Pole has won every other Grand Slam, adding a maiden Wimbledon title to her honors list this season.

She defeated Amanda Anisimova in the final, with that success helping Sam Querrey argue that Swiatek had a better season than Aryna Sabalenka.

Wim Fissette confirms what Iga Swiatek is working on before the Australian Open

Swiatek’s coach Wim Fissette has now shared an update on the player, who is currently second to Sabalenka in the WTA rankings.

He said on Break Point: “Yeah we’re in the middle of the preseason. I think the preseason is always a very interesting time.

“You start with let’s say new ideas or new inspiration for the next season. And it’s a start, you know, first of all she’s getting a very strong physical push in these weeks, where you put the base for the next year.

“On the other hand, you want to keep focusing on your strengths and to make the strengths even better. And on the other hand, you still want to add something to the game or make some improvements. And yeah, three weeks or four weeks is not the longest time.

“So it’s like the start what I feel, and we hope we can see already some let’s say small improvements in January. But it’s yeah, of course, the plan to keep building that.

“We feel the things we’re working on are necessary for her to keep developing in the right direction and to stay at the top of the game. And for that, we hopefully will see improvements month by month.”

Wim Fissette details Iga Swiatek’s preseason training schedule

Fissette has previously worked with various other WTA stars, including Victoria Azarenka and most recently Naomi Osaka.

The Belgian also shared insight into his current schedule with Swiatek, explaining: “Usually we train three days in a row, and then we take one day off to get the body recovered a little bit.

“So we’re actually really focused on the first two balls, so serve, return, plus the next ball. It’s something especially if we look at the top eight right now, there are a lot of big servers, big hitters, big returners and yeah, just important that Iga becomes better in that area, becomes less predictable, and also more comfortable when the opponents try to attack her from the first ball.”

Swiatek and Fissette clearly want to start 2026 off with a bang, but Australian Open success won’t be easy, as ever.

The Pole can, however, take great confidence from her fine 2025 season, in which she claimed three WTA titles.
