Iga Swiatek has claimed her second title of 2025 and further illustrated she is back to her best.

Prior to the Wimbledon Championships in June and July, Swiatek had not won a title since the 2024 French Open.

But to the surprise of many, Swiatek won her first Wimbledon title and just a month later, she emerged victorious once again.

Swiatek won the Cincinnati Open title after beating Jasmine Paolini, and she is in excellent form heading into the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year.

Iga Swiatek credits coach Wim Fissette for telling her to play ‘differently’ in Cincinnati

In October 2024, Wim Fissette became Swiatek’s coach, a month after he parted ways with Naomi Osaka.

It was a tricky first seven months for the pair, as Swiatek failed to reach a final and she slipped out of the WTA’s top five.

But things changed once the grass court season began, as she reached the Bad Homburg final before winning Wimbledon.

Now Swiatek has rediscovered her form on hard court and captured the Cincinnati Open title for the first time. After her victory, the Pole praised Fissette for encouraging her to step out of her comfort zone to succeed on Cincinnati’s quick hard courts.

“For sure playing so well here in Cincinnati where it was always tough and on faster hard courts, it’s a great boost of confidence,” Swiatek told Tennis Channel.

“I am really happy that the work that I have been doing paid off and again Wim had to convince me to play a different way to what I had in mind, so I am super happy with the process that we had.

“Everything clicked and I could play better and better every match of the tournament so I’m happy that I finished with this one [the trophy].”

Iga Swiatek thanks her team after winning the Cincinnati Open

Before Swiatek hired Fissette as her coach, the majority of her success had taken place on clay.

She wanted to become a more effective player on faster surfaces, including quicker hard courts and also on grass.

In the last month, Swiatek has done just that by winning Wimbledon and Cincinnati, and she will be a top contender for the upcoming US Open, a tournament she won in 2022.

After winning in Ohio, Swiatek took a moment to share some special praise on her team for helping to achieve her goal of becoming a better player on faster surfaces.

“I want to thank my team. I don’t know why I won tournaments that were like the last ones in terms of where I thought I would be playing well,” Swiatek said.

“Thank you for forcing me to become a better player and learning how to play on these faster surfaces. I’m shocked and super happy.”
