Iga Swiatek’s Wimbledon title defence was ended by Alex Eala in the third round of the Championships.
Eala defeated Swiatek in straight sets on Centre Court, marking another poor result in a largely disappointing season for the Pole.
The six-time Grand Slam champion has made just one semifinal this year and has now dropped to eighth in the world, having started 2026 placed second.

But former Wimbledon finalist and compatriot of Swiatek, Agnieszka Radwanska, was more positive in her analysis of the 25-year-old.

As per Tennis 365, asked if Swiatek can get back to her best, Radwanska responded: “I think so, because she’s such a great player.
“Actually, mentally and physically, it’s all there. She can still play great tennis, and I think she’s still showing that on court.
“But now, the problem is, it’s a lot of ups and downs during the match, and obviously when you’re on the top and you want to win tournaments, those ups and downs can be only for a little bit.

“You cannot lose a couple of games just like that, not being there mentally. I think if she’s gonna get there — and I think she will — we’re gonna see her winning titles, for sure.”
Swiatek’s last title was clinched at the Korea Open towards the end of the 2025 WTA season.
Her most recent Grand Slam was captured at Wimbledon last year.
Iga Swiatek’s points to defend from now until the US Open
There is a good chance Swiatek’s ranking of eighth in the world could slip even further ahead of the US Open, given the points she has to defend before then.
Swiatek is defending a total 1120 points before her campaign at Flushing Meadows, 1000 of which she will be protecting in Cincinnati, where she is the defending champion.
She won her first Cincinnati Open title last season without dropping a set throughout the tournament.
The run followed her fourth-round finish at the Canadian Open, which came shortly after she won Wimbledon.
At this year’s US Open, Swiatek is defending 430 points, having reached the quarterfinals of the hard-court major in 2025.
