Iga Swiatek’s ranking took another hit after her failed title defence at Wimbledon.

Swiatek lost to Alex Eala in the third round of the Championships, falling in straight sets to the Filipina star.

The defeat marked another disappointing result in her 2026 season, with the Pole having reached just one Grand Slam quarterfinal this year, which she managed at the Australian Open.

Having started the season as the world number two behind Aryna Sabalenka, Swiatek has now fallen to eighth following the conclusion of Wimbledon.

The Polish Billie Jean King Cup captain, Dawid Celt, thinks the six-time major champion is lacking positivity in her game right now.

Dawid Celt reacts after Iga Swiatek’s defeat at Wimbledon

Speaking on the Break Point YouTube channel, Celt said: “I think Iga is starting to accept what’s going on around her a little too much.

“That fighting spirit, that attitude, is missing. She forgets that she’s Iga Swiatek.

“Even though she’s going through a rough patch, a rough time, she’s a girl who’s achieved practically everything in tennis – an Olympic medal, Grand Slam titles, she was number one. (…) Iga accepts it all too quickly.

“She lacks that positive attitude to go out and show: ‘Okay, I’m going through a rough patch, but that doesn’t mean anything. I’m rebuilding here, I want to, I’m trying.’ That’s what I’m missing.”

Swiatek has yet to add to her title collection in 2026 so far and has tallied a season win-loss record of 23-12.

Iga Swiatek’s record with Francisco Roig so far

After losing in her opening match at the Miami Open earlier this year, Swiatek parted ways with her coach, Wim Fissette.

In early April, she found a replacement in the form of Francisco Roig, who had split with Emma Raducanu not long before.

Roig, a former coach of Rafael Nadal, was in Swiatek’s corner for the first time at the Stuttgart Open, where the 25-year-old lost in the quarterfinals.

Following an early exit in Madrid, Swiatek and Roig had their best result together in Rome by reaching the semifinals.

But Swiatek then lost in the fourth round of the French Open, before crashing out in round two at the Bad Homburg Open and round three at Wimbledon.
