Jannik Sinner continues to dominate men’s tennis, which is a feeling Iga Swiatek knows well in the women’s game.
Swiatek is clearly still a major threat on the WTA Tour, especially at the ongoing French Open given her history at the Grand Slam.
But she is currently falling short of the heights she once hit, with the 2022 campaign particularly of note for the Pole.
Swiatek climbed to number one in the WTA rankings that year, as well as claiming eight of her 25 career titles, two of which arrived at Grand Slams.
Her ATP counterpart Sinner is currently enjoying similar dominance in 2026, with Swiatek now addressing that situation following her latest win at Roland Garros.

Speaking after knocking out Sara Bejlek in round two, Swiatek said: “Before when Ash [Barty] retired, people were like ‘there’s no one player who is winning’ and they did not like it because they felt the WTA was not consistent.
“Now you [the journalist] like that system, so I guess it depends on who is asking the question.
“I feel that it is interesting for the fans, because we can surprise you, but on the other hand I feel like there is consistency which you can see in the results of the top players and that is also good because the fans for the top players can really follow and see them for a bit longer.
“The ATP, I mean, what can I say? Jannik is so good and Carlos [Alcaraz] is injured now, but obviously both of them have been winning most of the tournaments.
“I guess their fans are really happy and I am because I love watching them play. But for sure it is a bit predictable.”

Sinner has indeed stepped up in Alcaraz’s absence, with the Italian claiming all five of the ATP Masters 1000 events that have already taken place in 2026.
The Spaniard was, however, the man to beat before his wrist injury, with his success involving completing the career Grand Slam at the Australian Open.
Sinner now needs only the title at Roland Garros to follow in his footsteps, and that is looking increasingly likely as the tournament progresses.
Intriguingly, Swiatek is in somewhat of a battle with Sinner to achieve the career Grand Slam, but the Pole must wait until next year’s Australian Open to get over the line.

It is a race that the Italian should win, given that the French Open is now underway and thanks to his history in Paris.
He lost last year’s final to Alcaraz, while Swiatek has twice reached the Australian Open semifinals but no further.
