The IEB+ Argentina Open is here! The Tennis Gazette shares all the important information about the event from predictions to prize money and much more.
It might only be an ATP 250 tournament but it’s far more significant than that because it’s Diego Schwartzman’s last before retirement.
The Argentine, who climbed to number eight in the men’s singles world rankings in 2020, decided last year that this would be his final event.
Schwartzman will certainly have the crowd on his side but he will need to produce his best tennis to overcome Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune and the other quality players in the draw.

Argentina Open predictions
The Tennis Gazette writers predict who will win the Argentina Open title on Sunday:
George Patten: There are plenty of storylines to watch out for as tennis heads to Buenos Aires, perhaps none bigger than the impending retirement of home favorite Diego Schwartzman. He faces a tough test in round one, however, as he takes on Chilean star Nicolas Jarry, a finalist in 2024. It’ll be tough for anyone to beat Alexander Zverev in Argentina, as he makes a rare trip to South America, and will look to take down the likes of Holger Rune, and Lorenzo Musetti on his way to the title. Joao Fonseca will be another to look out for, as he continues his rapid rise on the ATP Tour.
Matthew Johns: The obvious prediction for this tournament is that top seed Alexander Zverev will win the title. However, following the disappointment of his Australian Open final loss I am not convinced that will be the case. The South American crowds often spur on the home players, with an Argentinian winning the title last year, so I am going to pick the often understated Tomas Martin Etcheverry. However, this prediction could go up in flames very quickly as he faces a very tricky opener against Joao Fonseca.
Peter Lynch: It’s an easy choice to back top seed Alexander Zverev, but with no disrespect to his opponents, I think he will be extremely disappointed with anything other than a victory in Argentina. He should be motivated alone by having just lost a third Grand Slam final at the Australian Open, where Jannik Sinner was good, but Zverev wasn’t anywhere near his best.
Lee Clarke: Let’s go for number two seed Holger Rune to win here. A player who looks set to really kick on in the coming years, Rune will be looking to really kick start his year in Argentina so I’m going to go for him to emerge victorious.
