Fans will have to wait until the 2026 season before they can see Nick Kyrgios in action at a Grand Slam again, following his recent decision ahead of the US Open.
After he returned to action in doubles at the Washington Open in July, the Australian looked to be back on track following recovery from persistent injuries.
Unfortunately, after not appearing in Toronto or Cincinnati, Kyrgios has pulled out of the US Open singles event and will be replaced by a lucky loser.
The withdrawal marks the third consecutive year he has not featured at Flushing Meadows, in what has been a largely inactive three seasons on the Grand Slam scene for the former Wimbledon finalist.

Nick Kyrgios’ last appearance at a Grand Slam event
Kyrgios saw the peak of his career in 2022, when he achieved his best result at a major after making it to the championship match at the All England Club.
There, he ultimately fell to seven-time champion Novak Djokovic, but his campaign as a whole showed positive signs.
He was beginning to make progress on the biggest stages in tennis, and later that year, Kyrgios built on his momentum by reaching the quarterfinals at the US Open.
What came after, however, was an unfortunate string of injury problems for the former world number 13, who has suffered multiple setbacks in recent years.
Between 2023 and 2025, Kyrgios has missed 11 Grand Slam events and has competed in singles at just five tournaments.
| Tournament | Result |
|---|---|
| 2023 Stuttgart Open | First Round |
| 2024 Brisbane International | First Round |
| 2025 Australian Open | First Round |
| 2025 Indian Wells Open | First Round |
| 2025 Miami Open | Second Round |
One of those competitions was the 2025 Australian Open, where he attempted his comeback in front of a home crowd in Melbourne.
It was not to be for Kyrgios, however, who lost in the first round to Britain’s Jacob Fearnley in straight sets.

What Nick Kyrgios has said about his future on the ATP Tour
Though many would still like to see him fulfil his potential, it does not look as though the 30-year-old intends to play professionally for much longer.
In an interview with Patrick Mouratoglou on the UTS Talk Show in July, Kyrgios said: “There’s not much left, I don’t think there’s much tennis left. My body can’t take too much of it.”
“I am going to get healthy, hopefully play this year, and then we will see what happens, but I can’t play for much longer, I don’t think.”
Kyrgios will hope to be ready in time for the 2026 ATP season, and especially his home Grand Slam, the Australian Open, in January.
