Holger Rune is on the road to recovery following a season-ending Achilles injury he sustained in 2025.
During a semifinal match against Ugo Humbert at the Stockholm Open in October, Rune broke the proximal part of his Achilles.
The Dane left the court in tears and quickly shut down his season before undergoing successful surgery.

Since then, Rune has been delivering updates on his road to recovery, uploading videos to social media of his gradual progression in rehab.
Now, almost four months after the setback, the 22-year-old has provided fans with the latest news on his fitness.

Holger Rune’s update on his Achilles injury after four months
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Rune showcased a video of himself strengthening his right leg.
Rune’s Achilles injury was in his right leg, but he explained in the caption that his aim was to make sure both are as strong as each other before returning to action.
He said: “Testing leg strength. Goal is to have almost equal strength at both legs before starting to jump and run to avoid unhealthy competitions.
“Happy to be back at Aspetar to make sure I progress safely. #comebackloading.”
Rune has not yet set a date for his return to ATP Tour-level competition, but the comeback is expected to be later in the season.

Holger Rune’s dip in the rankings since suffering an Achilles injury
Rune managed to crack the ATP top ten once again in 2025 following a couple of lengthy campaigns at big tournaments.
He made the final of Indian Wells and clinched the fifth title of his career at the Barcelona Open, where he beat Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

The results saw Rune rise to eighth in the world, but since his Achilles injury, he has fallen back outside the top ten.
Rune ended 2025 ranked 15th, and after the conclusion of the Australian Open, he has moved down another spot to 16th.
Having not featured at Melbourne Park this year, he was not able to defend the 200 points he claimed last year by reaching the fourth round.
