Holger Rune is now four months into his recovery from a season-ending Achilles injury.

Rune broke the proximal part of his Achilles during a match with Ugo Humbert at the Stockholm Open in October.

The Dane, who achieved a career-high ranking of fourth in the world in 2023, underwent successful surgery immediately after the injury.

He has since been issuing updates on his recovery, which, considering the nature of the setback, has been a speedy one.

Recently, Rune was asked if he thinks there’s a chance he might be back for Roland Garros, which starts in May.

Holger Rune provides timeline on his return to ATP action

In an interview with CNN, Rune said: “The injury, most studies are on, you know, 50-year-old men who don’t do surgery, who don’t do rehab.

“So obviously it’s going to take a while if you don’t do all of that, but I did surgery, I do all my rehab, so it can go way faster.

“There are athletes who came back after three and a half months, which is crazy. And I’m trying to come back as fast and safe as possible, but I hope to be back, you know, as soon as I can.

“Whether it’s the middle or end of clay season or grass season or a hardcore season, whenever it is, I really hope to be ready.

“When I’m strong enough, when I’m, you know, fit enough, and I feel I’m ready also on the tennis side, I’ll be back. So whether it’s going to be in one, two, three, or four months, I don’t know.”

Holger Rune discusses his support system during recovery

Asked about his support system during the recovery process, Rune said: “You know, my whole family, my mom’s sister and my dad have been very supportive.

“And also my team, they’ve been there for me from the beginning, you know, I did the surgery in Denmark, they were travelling up to me to make sure I was okay.

“So, and from there, I think it was the second or the third day I was back in the gym, you know, lifting some weights already and just trying to keep fit and keep my body, you know, going.

“And the family, the team, my friends around me have been very, very supportive. And I think without them, everything would be more and more difficult.”

Rune tallied a win-loss record of 36-22 in 2025 and captured a fifth ATP title at the Barcelona Open, where he overcame Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
