Holger Rune was unable to play at the Rio Open after losing his only match at the tournament prior in Buenos Aires.
Rune lost to Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open after reaching the fourth round of the Melbourne major for the second time.
The Dane was entered to play in multiple events following the first Grand Slam of the year, with Rune involved in a controversial Davis Cup tie.
On the ATP Tour, Rune has struggled for form and has won only one of his last three matches.
This includes Rune losing to Mariano Navone in a straight sets defeat in the first round of the Argentina Open.

Holger Rune provides health update after recent Rio Open withdrawal
Following losing back-to-back matches in Rotterdam and Buenos Aires, Rune withdrew from the Rio Open.
This came with a social media statement where Rune admitted that he was struggling with illness and apologized to fans who had attended the Argentina Open.
“Looking back I think it was too early to play after my influenza last week,” Rune said on X (formerly known as Twitter). “My shoulder was not working and the whole body seemed extremely vulnerable.
“I will take the time and get proper rest now. When the body is not there , the brain shuts down and I am just very sorry I couldn’t deliver what I wanted on court today. Sorry Argentina.”
With Rune taking a week away from the ATP Tour to recuperate, the 21-year-old has now provided fans with an update to confirm that he is feeling better.
“First day since Rotterdam I wake up and my body feels almost normal again,” said Rune. “Happy I took the time to rest and recover. Now practice before @AbiertoTelcel.”
Rune’s next tournament is the ATP 500 event in Acapulco, before he heads to Indian Wells for the start of the sunshine double.
