Wimbledon is drawing ever closer, with the grass court season fully underway ahead of the third major tournament in 2025.

Carlos Alcaraz is the defending Wimbledon champion in the men’s singles draw, having won the title in both 2023 and 2024.

While the Spaniard will be bidding for a third consecutive title at SW19, a former major finalist has already withdrawn from Wimbledon.

That is not the only big name to pull out of the grass court major, with a former top 20 player now making way for a Grand Slam champion.

Croatia's Marin Cilic celebrates after a point as he plays against France's Arthur Fils during their men's singles match on day two of the Paris ATP Masters 1000 tennis tournament at the Accor Arena.

Marin Cilic confirmed to play Wimbledon after withdrawal

Former US Open champion Marin Cilic has now been confirmed to play Wimbledon this year.

Cilic is a former world number three, and was also a Wimbledon finalist in 2017, but is currently ranked at world number 101 after undergoing knee surgery last year.

This meant that Cilic did not appear on the initial Wimbledon entry list, and would have needed to play qualifying instead.

However, after former world number 19 Alejandro Tabilo withdrew from Wimbledon due to injury, Cilic has now made his way into the main draw.

The next player who is waiting for a withdrawal to gain entry into the main draw of Wimbledon is 2023 quarter-finalist Chris Eubanks.

Eubanks is all but confirmed to gain that entry into the draw, with Nick Kyrgios unable to play Wimbledon this year, but still has not officially withdrawn.

What is Alejandro Tabilo’s injury?

Tabilo has struggled with injury since the Monte Carlo Masters, where he beat Novak Djokovic for the second time.

The Chilean was able to return for Roland Garros, but has now faced another injury setback.

In a recent Instagram post, Tabilo revealed that he has suffered a grade three abdominal tear and would be out for several weeks.

Tabilo wrote, “Hey there everyone! I wanted to tell you that today after doing several studies, we confirmed the injury we suspect. I have a grade 3 right abdominal rectus tear.

“It’s news that makes me very sad for the weeks that will leave me out without being able to compete. We are not yet clear when we will be able to return, but we will work hard and strive to make it as soon as possible. I hope you can understand and keep supporting me, see you on the flip!”

Tabilo has now withdrawn from Wimbledon, and is now set to suffer a significant drop down the ATP rankings.

The 28-year-old is defending 400 points from the grass court season in 2024, that includes winning the title in Mallorca.

This could put Tabilo at risk of dropping outside of the top 100 in the rankings.
