With the Madrid Open just around the corner, interest has naturally turned to the fitness of the two top Spaniards, Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal.

As symbols of a stunning past and future for this country’s tennis hopes, there is mass intrigue regarding the duo for varying reasons.

With Nadal, naturally, the entire sporting world would love to see him continue his comeback from injury in order for him to play at Roland-Garros.

However, for Alcaraz, many just want to see one of the world’s most prodigious young talents shining on a regular basis once again after a tumultuous injury-riddled start to 2024.

Fortunately, we now have an update on them both.

Will Carlos Alcaraz be injured for the Madrid Open?

In a report by Spanish outlet Revelo, we now know the expected whereabouts and rough plans for the two ahead of the Madrid Open.

Penned just yesterday, they first touch on the 37-year-old, noting: ‘The 22-Grand Slam champion is already in the Spanish capital and, according to Relevo, at 12:00 this Friday he will train for the first time on the clay courts of the Caja Mágica. He will do it without cameras and without fans, before the only look of his team.’

This suggests that he remains healthy, following his Round of 32 exit to Alex De Minaur in Barcelona on Wednesday.

Things seem a little more touch-and-go for Alcaraz: ‘The double Grand Slam champion will travel to the capital in the next few hours and this Saturday he will be tested at the official facilities.

‘Champion of the last two editions, Alcaraz has had some discomfort in his right arm for two weeks that have made him miss the Masters 1000 of Monte Carlo and the Conde de Godó, where he defended the title.’

Rafael Nadal continues to prepare for Roland-Garros

With the 20-year-old superstar, he still has his entire career ahead of him.

Whilst we would love to see him compete again and maintain the blistering start to his career already enjoyed, for Nadal, time is instead of the essence.

He has already hinted at this being his final year on tour multiple times, and upon departing Barcelona he claimed it would be the last time visiting that tournament.

We are stepping closer and closer to a world without another of the three greatest male tennis players of all time, with Novak Djokovic soon to be the only one left to fly the flag.

Hopefully, should he maintain his steady return to fitness in the few clay-court tournaments we have left, we could see one last dance at Roland-Garros, where he is preparing to die to taste victory.
