Frances Tiafoe will be looking to make history for American tennis this year at the US Open.

Tiafoe claimed he was in a good place ahead of the US Open at the start of the North American hard court swing.

However, it has not been so successful for Tiafoe, who has suffered from inconsistency in 2025.

Now looking ahead to his US Open, Tiafoe has revealed the big thing he could do if he wins his home Grand Slam tournament.

Frances Tiafoe jokes he could retire if he wins the US Open this year

An American man has not won their home Grand Slam tournament since Andy Roddick won the US Open in 2003.

Ben Shelton believes an American man will win the US Open soon, and Tiafoe will look to be that person this year.

The US Open is Tiafoe’s best Grand Slam tournament, having reached the semifinals in both 2022 and 2024.

When speaking to American WTA player Hailey Baptiste about his goals for the rest of the season, Tiafoe revealed that he wants to finish the year inside the top 10.

Tiafoe is currently the world number 17, but has been ranked as high as number 10, with Baptiste claiming that he could even break into the top five.

This led them on to a conversation about the US Open, with Tiafoe joking that he would completely retire from tennis if he wins the title this year.

Tiafoe: 2025 bro. For me, when we are all sitting there, I’d love to finish top 10. I feel like it’s time bro. Obviously like, I mean you know me? I mean it’s like this week and next week. It is what it is for me.

Baptiste: I mean that’s very doable. I mean I have so much belief in you. I think you could finish top five.

Tiafoe: No, real deal. Go to the [US] Open. I mean obviously try and win that. I mean, if I do that, the stories yours man. I’m out. I mean, I’m signing out dog.

Baptiste: Coach next year?

Tiafoe: Yeah, coach, I’m chilling man, I’m signing out dog. It’s over with. But no seriously, those are mine. No we both can be on the top of this game man, for real. I think we can take it to a whole other level.”

Frances Tiafoe has a big prediction for Hailey Baptiste

While Tiafoe has been inconsistent in 2025, Baptiste has enjoyed a big rise up the WTA rankings this year after reaching a career-high ranking of world number 48.

Madison Keys has predicted Baptiste to go higher, and the 23-year-old has now revealed her goal to break inside the top 30 by the end of the season.

Tiafoe backed Baptiste to achieve that, win WTA titles and go on to make deep runs at Grand Slam tournaments.

Baptiste: The big goal is to get a title this year. That’s something I really want to do, I haven’t won a singles yet. That’s the number one goal to get one under my belt.

Tiafoe: If you won a title it’ll be huge.

Baptiste: I mean ranking wise, to try to get in the top 30 or 20…I believe I can do that for sure.

Tiafoe: 100%. Start the year being seeded in Australia.

Baptiste: Huge difference for everything. So those are the goals right now. You know getting smarter, faster, better, stronger. You know? Continue to improve everything I can and bring those to life.

Tiafoe…That’s what I’m saying bro, 2025 has been a dope season though…How do you feel, though, with all the new results, recognition?

Baptiste: I mean, it’s something that I feel like I could have done earlier. It’s not like a shock to me at all. I think that I’ve just kind of put the pieces together in the right way and this year kind of figured some things out. Obviously all that stuff comes with, you know, having results. But yeah, I mean, I think I deserve it.

Tiafoe: 100%. I couldn’t agree more and I still think your best tennis is way ahead of you. I think you’re just really starting to scratch the surface a little bit here. And I think you can do special things, bro. Titles, deep runs in majors. Why not?

Both Baptiste and Tiafoe will look to move towards their respective goals when the US Open singles draw gets underway on Sunday, August 24.

Before the singles draw begins, Tiafoe will play with Keys in the revamped US Open mixed doubles tournament.
