Frances Tiafoe praised one of his Laver Cup teammates despite Team World losing to Team Europe in Berlin.

Tiafoe was not involved in Laver Cup action on day one, where Team World and Team Europe shared the points.

McEnroe’s side then turned that 2-2 tie into an 8-4 lead on day two, where Tiafoe clinched an impressive singles win over Daniil Medvedev.

But the American couldn’t repeat his heroics on day three as he lost both of his matches at the Uber Arena.

A doubles defeat alongside Ben Shelton came against Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud, before a singles loss to Alexander Zverev.

Frances Tiafoe makes Thanasi Kokkinakis claim at the Laver Cup

He ended the tournament with two points, one behind Taylor Fritz and four behind Shelton, with the latter’s five matches more than any other player at this year’s Laver Cup.

It was, however, Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis who earned the praise of Tiafoe, with the latter saying in Team World’s final press conference: “TK is definitely MVP. He’s the guy of this team.

“We have been friends for a really long time and to have him on the team has been great. One of the funnier guys I know. He has something to say at all times, really slick out the mouth.

“It’s really great to have him. Extremely talented, he knows a lot about the game. It was great to have him and he should be cemented to be a glue guy going forward.”

Thanasi Kokkinakis and Frances Tiafoe lose out to Team Europe at the Laver Cup

Kokkinakis has been enjoying his time on the court lately, having knocked 11th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas out of the US Open last month.

The pair met once more at the Laver Cup, but it was the Greek star who came out on top in their opening-day singles match.

That was the only appearance that Kokkinakis made in Berlin, with the Australian losing 1-6, 4-6 in the second match of the tournament.

His Team World teammate Francisco Cerundolo and Team Europe’s Grigor Dimitrov were the only others to feature just once at the competition.

Cerundolo and Dimitrov both won their ties, but Tiafoe clearly holds Kokkinakis in high regard, in what is ultimately a team event.

Andy Roddick says the Laver Cup matters to the players, with the record-breaking Carlos Alcaraz the clear star of the show this time around.
