The ATP Tour schedule roars on despite the fourth and final Grand Slam coming to an end after the conclusion of the US Open.

Andy Roddick says this is the ‘weird’ part of the season, with the Laver Cup having also just finished in Berlin.

But there is still plenty to fight for, with the China Open, ATP Finals and Davis Cup Finals all still remaining on the calendar.

Not everyone will take part, of course, with many top players injured and others set to call time on their careers.

Legendary figure Roger Federer called time on his tennis career at this stage two years ago, hanging up his racket after the 2022 Laver Cup.

Former world number 19 Pablo Cuevas retires from tennis

Federer still misses tennis, with his fellow icon Andy Murray likely in the same position after his retirement earlier this summer.

Another top player has now taken the same decision, with Tennis TV saying on X that Pablo Cuevas has announced his retirement from tennis.

The decision from the 38-year-old Uruguayan, who reached a career-high ranking of 19th in 2016, comes 20 years after he turned professional.

Pablo Cuevas soon to be followed by Rafael Nadal into retirement

Cuevas retires from tennis with six ATP Tour singles titles to his name, with a positive win-loss record of 242-224.

But he also shone on the doubles court, with the Uruguayan winning nine titles – including the 2008 French Open – and reaching number 14 in the world rankings.

The 38-year-old did, however, have several injury issues, including undergoing knee surgery and breaking his foot.

He is set to be followed into retirement by another icon in Rafael Nadal later this year, with the Spaniard having also struggled with injury lately.

But the former world number one still has grand plans within tennis, including Davis Cup Finals success with Spain in November.
