The preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics has already begun with some big announcements being made.

Paris saw many iconic moments across the sporting landscape, including Novak Djokovic finally claiming an elusive gold medal.

While in the women’s singles tennis event it was Qinwen Zheng who won the Olympic title, shocking the overwhelming favourite Iga Swiatek in the semifinals.

It also saw the retirement of Andy Murray, who partnered compatriot Dan Evans for one final tournament on the clay of Roland Garros.

Despite the incredible moments that the Olympics created last year, it appears that the LA Games have already made a change to the tennis tournament that fans do not like one bit.

LA 2028 Olympics criticised for change they have made to tennis mixed doubles

The US Open received much criticism for their changes to mixed doubles this year, reducing it down to just a two-day event before the start of the main draw.

Despite the backlash, the US Open announced a blockbuster lineup of players who have signed up to compete in mixed doubles for the first time.

It appears that fans now believe that the LA Olympics are following suit, after they made an announcement about the scheduling for the 2028 Games.

In this announcement, they revealed that the mixed doubles would actually start on day two after the Opening Ceremony.

This is three days before the other tennis events are scheduled to start, with fans now speculating that the Olympics are going to do the same to mixed doubles as the US Open.

It is clear that fans are not happy about this idea, with social media users expressing their disappointment.

One fan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “That’s ridiculous and pretty hideous.”

This sentiment continued when another added, “Awful! I think it’s very disrespectful! US Open has made the mixed doubles a sham! Now the Olympics.”

The backlash towards the LA Olympics continued from another social media user, who wrote, “It’s disgusting what they’ve done to the fabric of tennis.”

Others appeared to be confused as to why tennis appears to be wanting to change mixed doubles so much.

One fan wrote, “This makes ZERO sense.”

Followed by another who said, “Why is everyone suddenly trying to eliminate mixed doubles, haven’t we suffered enough.”

The tennis events at the LA Olympics are now set to take place between July 16-28 in 2028.

Tennis Medallists from the Paris 2024 Olympics

At the Paris Olympics, Djokovic beat Carlos Alcaraz to win Olympic gold for the first time, while Lorenzo Musetti took bronze.

The aforementioned Swiatek had to settle for bronze, while Zheng and Donna Vekic took the top two prizes.

One of the biggest stories actually came in the mixed doubles event, as former couple Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac appeared to put aside their differences to win an emotional gold medal.
