Laura Robson has been giving her verdict on the future of men’s tennis.

The former world number 27, who enjoyed an admirable 14-year career around the apex of the women’s game, has since become a well-respected pundit giving her views to various outlets.

Her latest claims come via Tennis365, as she outlines one ATP star set to enjoy a long and successful career, starting with a stellar 2024 season.

But who does Robson think can challenge Carlos Alcaraz this year for all the major honours? We take a closer look…

What Laura Robson said about Jannik Sinner

Unsurprisingly, the Spaniard is a heavy favourite to enjoy a dominant year, given how he only seems to be improving with age.

Claiming the Wimbledon title just last season marked a huge step forward for the 20-year-old, who truly put his name on the map as one of tennis’ brightest stars in recent memory after his 2022 US Open triumph.

However, for all his stardom, it cannot be forgotten that there is another set to dominate alongside him for the foreseeable future.

Robson was keen to hand Jannik Sinner an equal amount of adulation: ‘Obviously, it’s not a massive problem because he’s still won Wimbledon and the US Open, so clearly he is doing amazing things at such a young age, but I just feel like he needs to go to the next level on his serve, as Jannik has done. He could look to make some small changes and they can make all the difference.’

Then, when asked who she felt was due a big year on tour, the 30-year-old continued: ‘I would say Jannik at this point. I feel like his improvements over the last year or so have been very noticeable.

‘You can see the changes on his serve and he is also a little bulkier now, although he is still not big compared to other players. He’s clearly put in so much work, especially on the serve.

‘There is a real plan from him and his team to look to do new things and to look to improve. It has been exciting to watch.’

The first of many Grand Slams for Sinner

To name Sinner as the one to watch for this season is hardly an unsurprising pick, given his early-year success enjoyed last month.

Battling his way to the Australian Open title, the win marked the 22-year-old’s first major title, and has also catapulted his career to new heights.

Now, expectations will ramp up, and it will be interesting to see how he copes.

Everything Robson says is true, but it is she, and many other media personalities, who could continue hyping Sinner up and only add to the mounting pressure.

Regardless, he seems like an intelligent and humble player, who is certain to add to his sole Grand Slam in the near future.
