Elina Svitolina has unfortunately been forced to end her 2024 WTA season early after undergoing foot surgery.

Svitolina ended her season early after the long-standing issue, having made the same decision last season.

The Ukrainian, who reached a career-high ranking of number three in 2017, has now taken action to try and solve the problem.

It comes immediately after fellow WTA star Ons Jabeur ended her season early, with the Tunisian currently suffering with a shoulder injury.

The busy schedule is seemingly playing a role in such problems, with little time for rest in between competitions.

Elina Svitolina sends message after season-ending surgery

Clearly disappointed with her season-ending injury, Svitolina is, however, staying positive as she looks ahead to next year.

“Hey everyone,” she wrote on Instagram. “So unfortunately my 2024 season is now in the history books, as I have had surgery on my foot today to correct a long-standing issue that I have been trying to manage throughout this year.

“This is the same issue that ended my season in 2023 and has hampered me for most of 2024. It’s become harder to manage and has been impacting me more and more, not just with regard to tennis and training but in my everyday life too.

“BUT NOW… I am excited for the opportunity to focus on my recovery and come back even stronger than before. I am determined to do whatever it takes to get back on the court and compete at the highest level.

“I want to thank all of you for your support and encouragement during this challenging time. Your love and positivity mean the world to me, and I’m looking forward to seeing you all at the courts in 2025. Much love…. Elina.”

Injury-plagued Elina Svitolina can be proud of her 2024 season

Svitolina, who is currently ranked 28th in the WTA rankings, boasts a superb 17 titles from her fantastic career.

And the 30-year-old’s talent and determination were once again on show this season, as she reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals earlier this summer.

Fourth round exits were suffered at the Australian Open and French Open, with Svitolina ending her Grand Slam season with a third round exit at the US Open.

There was, however, no shame in losing to defending champion Coco Gauff, particularly given the Ukrainian’s clear injury issue.

A well-earned rest is now needed in order for the WTA star to fully recover from injury, with an exciting 2025 definitely in store if she can shake off the problem and get back to her best.
