Jannik Sinner is finally a Wimbledon champion following a four-set victory over Carlos Alcaraz on Centre Court.

Sinner was beaten in the quarter-final by Daniil Medvedev last year but roared to the title by beating Novak Djokovic in the last four and then Alcaraz in the final.

The Italian player has parked his defeat to Alcaraz at the French Open, which saw him lose in five sets despite winning by two sets to love and wasting three Championship points.

Sinner is coached by Darren Cahill and he will be keen to win as much as he can with the Aussie in his corner, with retirement on the cards for the renowned coach at the end of the year.

Darren Cahill makes claim about Sinner and Alcaraz rivalry

The two best players in world tennis are going to have a long and fruitful battle as their careers progress to the next level.

Seven Grand Slams in succession have gone the way of either Alcaraz or Sinner and things do look a little bit ominous for the rest of the field.

Cahill has been taken to task on the pair and their rivalry after Sinner got over the line at Wimbledon, with the coach now sharing what he wants to happen with the rivalry.

He said in his press conference: “Jannik watches more Carlos matches than he does anybody else.

“Because he’s fascinated with the improvements coming in his game. And he’s pushing us as coaches to make sure that he’s improving also as a tennis player.

“The rivalry is real. It’s there. Hopefully, it’s going to be there and real for the next 10 or 12 years.”

Someone has to step up and challenge Sinner and Alcaraz

When Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer started to dominate, there were always other players looking to get among the elite, with Novak Djokovic emerging to make the big three.

In today’s game, it’s difficult to see who is going to be stepping up and taking on the Djokovic mantle to form a big three in the modern era.

The rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner is going to be brilliant but it would be nice to see a third player emerge on the scene to start pinching some slams too.

Sinner will be glad to finally heal the wounds that would have remained after his sickening defeat at the French Open and hopefully, we get another instalment of this rivalry at the US Open.
