Daniil Medvedev finally ended his 882-day title drought after winning the Almaty Open.
Medvedev beat Corentin Moutet in the final of the ATP 250 event, clinching the decisive third set to emerge victorious, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
The Russian’s triumph secured his first tour-level crown since the Italian Open in 2023, and the 21st of his career.
Recently, Medvedev‘s results have started to improve, with the former world number one enjoying a promising Asian swing under the wing of his new coaches Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke.

With Johansson and Goetzke in his corner, he is now back amongst the titles and looks like the Medvedev of old.
For his opponent, however, it is another near miss in an ATP final.
Daniil Medvedev sends a message to Corentin Mouter after the final
Moutet has now lost all three of the tour-level finals he has appeared in over the course of his career, two of which have come this year.
- 2020: Lost the Qatar Open final to Andrey Rublev
- 2025: Lost the Mallorca Championships final to Tallon Griekspoor and the Almaty Open final to Daniil Medvedev
Speaking to the Frenchman during the award ceremony, Medvedev said: “Corentin, good job this week.
“You’re playing better and better, going up the rankings. I’m pretty sure you’re going to get a title one day.
“I did my best to make sure it’s not today (laughs), so I’m for sure happy, but big congrats to you and your coach and all your team for the hard work, and I wish all the best for the rest of the year.”

Medvedev then went on to thank his family, as well as his new coaching team.
“I want to thank my team. Some guys are here, some guys are not here. Thanks a lot for helping me. We have not been together for a long time, and already we have a title. So, great job, guys, thanks a lot.
“I want to thank my family, my beautiful wife, and my two daughters.
“I thought I was not going to be able to win the first match. I was broken in pieces, so thanks a lot, man, for helping me get through the week and feel my best in the final.”
