Daniil Medvedev will have big plans for his grass season, which is now getting underway following the conclusion of the French Open.

The former world number one suffered a somewhat disappointing fourth round exit on the Paris clay, losing 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 to Alex de Minaur.

The Russian became the highest seed to fall in the French Open singles with the defeat, having entered as the fifth seed.

The victor meanwhile became the first Australian man to reach the quarter-finals of the competition since Lleyton Hewitt in 2004, shouting ‘I love it here, I absolutely love it’ to the crowd after the win.

Medvedev will now switch his focus from clay to grass, with the Queen’s Club Championships providing many players with the opportunity to fine-tune their game ahead of Wimbledon.

And one player that will be eager to impress is Jack Draper, who suffered an even earlier exit than Medvedev in Paris, losing in the first round.

He has, however, bounced back from that disappointment to make it to the quarter-finals of the Stuttgart Open.

The British ace will now meet Frances Tiafoe on the grass, having overcome Marcos Giron in the round of 16, with Giron having knocked out Andy Murray in the previous round.

Draper’s confidence on the grass has now been given an added boost, with Medvedev predicting big success for his fellow professional.

When asked for a bold prediction for the grass season, Medvedev told the ATP Tour on X: “Jack Draper to win Queen’s.”

Key change to tennis calendar in 2024

It is clear that different players favour different surfaces, with plenty of skill and indeed adaptability needed to cope with the changing courts.

The major season starts and ends on the hard surface at the Australian Open and the US Open, with the clay of the French Open and the grass of Wimbledon coming in between.

But there is a significant difference to this year’s calendar for many players, with the 2024 Olympics taking place at the end of July.

It will get underway just two weeks after Wimbledon, with Roland Garros the venue, having just hosted the French Open.

For now, however, Draper is firmly focused on the grass season, and clearly has grand plans this summer, having taken part in a practice session on the grass at the National Tennis Centre immediately after his Paris exit.
