Jack Draper has had a mixed time of it in 2024 so far, with the 22-year-old having 13 wins and 11 defeats to his name.

The latest defeat will, however, have been the most disappointing, with the Briton crashing out of the French Open after just one round.

The world number 39 would have undoubtedly fancied his chances of progressing into the second round after being drawn against Dutch qualifier Jesper de Jong.

But it was the latter who came out on top after a four-hour battle, securing a 5-7, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, 3-6 victory.

The slow start in Paris certainly cost Draper, whose wait for a first win at the French Open must now continue.

Making the loss even more bitter was the fact that De Jong was handed a mouthwatering clash with Carlos Alcaraz in the second round, which the latter won relatively comfortably.

But Draper has not wasted any time pondering what could have been, with the Briton spotted getting back to work immediately, taking part in a practice session on the grass at the National Tennis Centre, as per the official LTA X account.

Clay isn’t for everyone, with Draper perhaps feeling much more at home on the grass at the National Tennis Centre.

There is, of course, the added pressure of playing at a major tournament, with the fans not always providing a friendly atmosphere.

Belgian David Goffin found that out early on in Paris, accusing the fans of ‘total disrespect’ during his first round meeting with French wildcard Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Young star Alcaraz has had no such issues so far as he soars through the rounds at Roland Garros, but his compatriot Rafael Nadal did suffer an early exit, a result that left Coco Gauff feeling emotional.

The Briton suffered a round of 64 exit earlier this year at the Australian Open, and will surely now have plans for a much stronger showing on home soil when Wimbledon returns.
