Danielle Collins reveals what she’s really hoping to do at Wimbledon this year before she retires

Danielle Collins has enjoyed a stellar career on the court, but it is sadly coming to an end later this year.

The American announced her decision to hang up her racket in January, saying retirement had ‘been on the cards for a while’.

Since then, however, she has been in stunning form, with the experienced 30-year-old going on to win two titles.

The world number 11 is now flying high at Wimbledon, with Collins storming into the fourth round in London.

She is yet to drop a set in this run at the All England Club, having beaten Clara Tauson, Dalma Galfi and Beatriz Haddad Maia so far.

A round of 16 meeting with Barbora Krejcikova, with the Czech ace currently occupying 32nd place in the WTA rankings.

Collins will be delighted with her progress, but the American still has grand plans for her final journey at the All England Club.

“That’s a huge bucket lister for me to be able to play on Centre Court in singles,” Collins said in her third round press conference.

“I have played on Centre Court before in doubles during my semi-final match here. That was one of my most cherished memories on court, being able to play on Centre Court.

“You watch so much tennis as a kid and see all of these people you look up to and idolise playing, and when you get to come here as an adult it’s such a surreal experience. But it would be really cool to play singles on that court as well.”

Collins has played on Courts 3 and 10 so far this time around, with the American now into the Wimbledon round of 16 for the very first time.

She will be desperate to continue her largely fine form on the court, having suffered a disappointing second round exit at the French Open.

Collins will be full of confidence amid her longest singles run at Wimbledon, with the 2022 Australian Open finalist likely the favourite going into her next match.

She is currently in high spirits, offering tennis legend Martina Navratilova the chance to help her on court after receiving advice from the nine-time Wimbledon champion.

Should Collins make it past Krejcikova in the last 16 at the All England Club, meetings with the likes of 13th seed Jelena Ostapenko and fourth seed Elena Rybakina could come next.
