Danielle Collins has continued her winning run at the Miami Open after beating Rebeka Masarova.

Collins won the Miami Open last year, going on an impressive run where she won both the WTA 1000 event and the Charleston Open back-to-back.

The American was set to retire at the end of last year, but Collins made a U-turn on this decision due to a change in her personal circumstances.

Since returning to the Miami Open as last year’s champion, Collins has began her title defense in impressive form.

Danielle Collins names Serena Williams as her greatest player of all time

When taking part in an interview with Sky Sports, Collins was asked lots of different questions about the tennis world.

One of the biggest topics in tennis concerns the debate over who is the greatest of all time, with people often picking between ‘the big three’ of Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

On this occasion, Collins was also given the option of 23-time Grand Slam Serena Williams and that is who she choose over ‘the big three’.

Despite not choosing Nadal, Collins did also suggest that he was her preferred player over Djokovic and Federer.

“Out of Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, like I’ve always been a huge Nadal fan,” said Collins. “Not to say that I’m not a fan of everyone else, I love them, but was always kind of gravitated towards Nadal’s style of play.”

She continued, “I’m going to go with Serena for sure, she’s the GOAT on all fronts so yeah going with Serena, easy.”

Unlike with ‘the big three’, Collins knows what it’s like to play Williams having lost both meetings against her compatriot.

After winning the Miami Open last year, Williams congratulated Collins and was one of many people to do so.

Danielle Collins picks her favorite Grand Slam tournament fans

One of the other big questions that Collins was asked was about her favorite fans at a Grand Slam tournament.

Collins was booed at the Australian Open earlier this year, but claimed that she could look past that after being able to go on a vacation due to the prize money she earnt.

“I’m going to have to go with the Australian Open,” said Collins. “Yeah, I’ve had a lot of great support there over the years. I mean, I know like whatever this year, but honestly it’s great.

“I had a wonderful vacation in the Bahamas and I think I’ve made my most money there, so, and I feel like the fans have been a large part of that with the support.

“You know, not support, like all of… it all works. So, you know, I love the energy and I love how into the tennis people are. Best fans, Australian Open. Truly.”

The Australian Open is by far Collins’ best Grand Slam tournament, having won nearly the same amount of matches at the one event compared to all three of other majors combined.

Her best result in Melbourne came in 2022, when Collins reached the Australian Open final before losing to Ash Barty.
