The WTA Tour was due to be without Danielle Collins from 2025 but that is no longer the case.
Eyebrows were raised when the 30-year-old was named in Team USA’s squad for January’s United Cup in Australia.
But Danielle Collins has now confirmed the reason for that, as she has reversed her decision to retire at the end of the 2024 season.
She faced plenty of calls from fans to continue playing beyond this season, especially with the level she produced at times this year.
But the American will in fact continue playing into 2025 and she took to Instagram to explain her decision.
Danielle Collins explains why she will continue playing professional tennis
Collins was certain that she would retire from tennis at the end of 2024. This was due to health issues such as being diagnosed with endometriosis and her desire to start a family.
But in a lengthy post on Instagram, the Miami Open champion explained why she will remain on tour next season. “While I was very excited and eager to wrap up my tennis career on a high note this year and jump headfirst into my next chapter of life, things have not gone as planned,” Collins wrote.
“Dealing with endometriosis and fertility is a massive challenge for many women and something that I am actively traversing, but I am fully confident in the team I am working with.
“It is just going to take longer than I thought. So, the DANIMAL story has not reached its conclusion. I will be back on tour in 2025.
“While there are no guarantees in life, I hope to build on my 2024 momentum and keep playing until there is more certainty around my personal fertility journey. The only guarantee for now will be some more epic matches.”
One player who was very happy with Collins’ update is World number 45 Caroline Garcia, who has practiced with Collins and welcomed the World number nine onto her podcast titled ‘Tennis Insider Club’ in August.
“See you 2025 Collins”, the Frenchwoman wrote, to which Collins replied: “Another year of the best times off court and at our practices.”

When was Danielle Collins’ last match?
Collins was playing some scintillating tennis earlier this season, when she claimed the Miami and Charleston Open titles.
She went on a 15-match wins streak which came to an end courtesy of Aryna Sabalenka at the Madrid Open in April.
But since making the Olympic Games quarter-finals, Collins has not won a match and has struggled with injury.
She last played at the Guadalajara Open in September, and suffered an opening round defeat to qualifier Olivia Gadecki.
That was Collins’ third successive defeat, but she will look to reverse that form in 2025.
