Coco Gauff has been sharing which female basketball sensation she’d love to play against after playing the sport when she was younger.
Coco Gauff came through a tricky match against Sachia Vickery yesterday to reach the quarter-final of the Stuttgart Open.
Now a tennis sensation – and future star in the making – Gauff has her eyes firmly on making waves with a racquet in her hand.
Gauff has already lifted one major title – the US Open in 2023 – and she will now hope to add more to her portfolio in the coming years.
However, had things not worked out on the tennis court she could well have been emulating one female sports star who is currently making waves.

Coco Gauff named the one basketball star she’d love to play against
Well, the name Caitlin Clark is hot on everyone’s lips over in the United States right now.
The 22-year-old had been playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes but was the #1 draft pick by the Indiana Fever when it took place this week.
When it comes to college basketball, she is considered one of the greatest to ever play the game at the college level.
Clark is the all-time leading scorer across men’s and women’s college basketball – and recently racked up the most three-point shots ever in a single season.
Now, following her own career in college basketball, Gauff has been quizzed on Clark and she’s a big fan her hers.
She told WTA Tennis: “It’s funny because my dad was actually talking about that. He was like, ‘You would have been right up there. You would have been a sophomore. I would have been shooting Js and everything.’
“Yeah I don’t know if I would be that type of player, but I will say if I could go in another life I would love to be able to play at the same time as Caitlin Clark just to see if I could guard her. Obviously, now I definitely couldn’t, but I don’t know, if I trained for it, I just want to see.”
Gauff and Clark are brilliant trailblazers for females in sport
At 20-year-old, Gauff has the world in the palm of her hand. She could win countless major titles and given the talent she possesses there will be more majors to come.
The opportunities for women to play sport are growing and with players in their respective fields like Gauff and Clark, it can only bode well.
What Clark has achieved in the college game is quite remarkable and during a recent game for Iowa, she scored over half the points of her whole team.
Gauff can wonder what might have been for her as a basketball player but she will have to focus on tennis for now.
In terms of Clark, it will be fascinating to see how she gets on with her new team and she will surely continue breaking records during her career.
Perhaps more crucially, girls all over the world will be watching these two sensational athletes and viewing them as role models.
That is important and hopefully, new ground can continue to be broken when it comes to females getting opportunities in sport.
