Coco Gauff has enjoyed her last two weeks on the WTA Tour but it has not been easy from a physical standpoint.
After the China Open, the WTA Tour moved straight to the Wuhan Open which will conclude on Sunday.
Gauff went on to win in Beijing and had little time to rest as she flew straight to Wuhan to begin preparations for the ongoing tournament.
The 20-year-old is now into the quarter-finals and she bids to win back-to-back titles for the first time claiming the Cincinnati Open and US Open titles in 2023.
What has Coco Gauff said about her fitness levels at the Wuhan Open?
Before Sunday’s success in Beijing, Coco Gauff had not reached the quarter-finals of any event since the French Open in June. She has now made successive last eight appearances after beating Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-1 on Thursday morning.
Despite her success of late, it has been physically taxing time for Gauff, who alluded to the slower and heavier conditions in Wuhan after winning her first match against Viktoriya Tomova.
But World number four is delighted to be competing and is trying to overcome all challenges as she bids to become the champion of Wuhan.
“I mean every day is tough,” Gauff said during her on-court interview. “I have spent a lot of energy the last couple of days, so every match is a blessing. I am just happy to get the chance to play, maybe when I’m not 100%.”

Coco Gauff at her best against Marta Kostyuk at the Wuhan Open
Gauff produced one of her finest performances of the season as she conceded just five games against Kostyuk in Wuhan.
She did not serve a double fault and won 80% of her first serve points, and an impressive 71% behind the second serve.
Gauff converted all five of her break points on the way to defeating the Ukrainian for the third time in her career and she was pleased with her performance.
“I played really well today. Marta is a tough opponent but happy with how I played,” she added. “Every match I am just trying to push through, it’s been a lot of matches in a short amount of time, but I’m happy with how I played today.”
