Coco Gauff continued her title defence at Roland Garros with a convincing win over Mayar Sherif in the second round.
The American, who beat compatriot Taylor Townsend in straight sets in the first round, defeated Sherif 6-3, 6-2 to advance to round three in Paris.
Gauff is in pursuit of her third Grand Slam title and second at the French Open, having won the tournament for the first time last year.
Where will Coco Gauff be ranked at the end of the 2026 season?
She came into the clay-court major having reached the final of the Italian Open, where she ultimately fell to Elina Svitolina.
Gauff is in great form on the surface at the moment, but says she does not have any expectations to go back-to-back in Paris.

Who do you think will win the French Open?
Have you changed your mind after round one?
“And yeah, I think I don’t know why I didn’t look at who I play next round. But I think tomorrow, we’re probably focused on getting more of the rhythm back because today was a lot of off-rhythm and a lot of high balls.
“But yeah, I’m really happy with how I played, and she didn’t make it easy for me.”

Reflecting on the win of Sherif, Gauff said: “Yeah, it was a physical match, a tough match. My patience was really tested today.
“But Mayar is a great player. She makes you compete for every point. I don’t feel like I got many easy points today.
“I’m really happy with how I played. Shout out to my team. I think I hit so many balls up here. So hopefully my arms look pretty muscular. Because I hit those balls.
“But yeah, I’m happy to be through to the next round.”
Gauff will take on either Katie Boulter or Anastasia Potapova in the third round of Roland Garros.
