Coco Gauff has seen her reign as the US Open champion come to an abrupt end in New York.

The 20-year-old was beaten in three sets by fellow American Emma Navarro and will have to wait to claim another Grand Slam title.

Gauff was also beaten by Navarro at Wimbledon earlier this summer and it’s a case of back to the drawing board for last year’s winner.

The youngster was beaten 3-6, 6-3, 3-6 by Navarro and losing in the last 16 represents a somewhat disappointing campaign for such a talented player.

There are still some tournaments to come this season and the tour finals will perhaps be in Gauff’s sights as she aims to finish the campaign with a flourish.

Coco Gauff shares plans for rest of 2024 after US Open exit

Losing to Navarro is hardly what can be considered embarrassing for Gauff, with the 23-year-old the world number 12 at the moment.

However, it will perhaps worry Gauff a little bit that Navarro clearly seems to have the US number one’s number at the moment.

Beating her at Wimbledon is one thing but ending her reign as the US Open champion is a different matter altogether.

After losing in three sets at Flushing Meadows, Gauff has shared what she will be doing for the remainder of the year.

Gauff told the US Open media team on YouTube: “I don’t know what my schedule will look like at the end of this year. I feel like I want to spend a good training block. I haven’t had that since maybe before the clay season started.

“We will see how Asia goes. If I qualify [for finals] I will play, but for me, in the long term I want to get a good training block in and I guess we will see how many tournaments I then play for the year.”

Gauff will bounce back from disappointing second half of 2024

As a young player operating in a very competitive field currently evident in female tennis, Gauff can ensure she bounces back next year.

After reaching the semi-final in Australia and in Paris, it’s perhaps disappointing that she’s succumbed to Navarro in the fourth round of Wimbledon and the US Open.

Gauff still has some stuff to play for in 2024 and the hope will be that she can finish with a flourish and get some silverware under her belt in other events.

At 20, blips will be evident. She also goes into most tournaments as one of the top players which naturally means that player raise their game against her.

Gauff is a very likeable player and although relinquishing her US Open crown will hurt, there is every reason to believe she will bounce back in the future.
