Coco Gauff commented on how she feels about playing mixed doubles with Taylor Fritz at the Paris Olympics.

The 20-year-old is set to compete at her very first Olympic Games and Gauff had the honour of carrying the US flag at the opening ceremony along with LeBron James.

Gauff leads an American tennis Olympic team that includes her women’s doubles partner Jessica Pegula, Danielle Collins, Emma Navarro and Desirae Krawczyk.

Her mixed doubles partner Fritz, is part of the men’s US tennis team along with Eubanks, Tommy Paul, Marcos Giron and the doubles pair of Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek.

Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz aim for mixed doubles glory at the Paris Olympics

Gauff will enter the singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles competition at the Olympic Games and is partnered by her fellow American number one in Fritz.

They are aiming to become the first Americans to win Olympic gold since Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock beat Ram and Venus Williams at the 2016 Games in Rio.

This will be the first time the pair will have played doubles together and in her pre-Olympic press conference, Gauff stated they have practiced together and are working on certain skills to give themselves the best chance of Olympic glory.

“Taylor and I did a mini practice. I think what he likes about both of our games is we both have good serves in our respective fields,” Gauff said.

“I’ve played doubles a little bit more than him, so I maybe can do a little bit more, but I’m a singles player. So I think the biggest thing we wanted to focus on was serving and returns and I think we do that both quite well.”

Are Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz the top seeded mixed doubles team at the Paris Olympic Games?

Gauff and Fritz are seeded second in the mixed doubles competition at the Paris Olympic Games.

Alexander Zverev and Laura Siegemund of Germany, who helped their country win the United Cup in January, are seeded number one.

Four of the 16 teams involved are seeded, including the Australian pair of Matthew Ebden and Ellen Perez and fourth seeds Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece.

Gauff, who is an established doubles player having claimed nine titles, is ready to have a shot at winning a medal with Fritz.

“I’m really excited to play,” she added. “I think we have a good shot at doing well and Taylor is obviously an incredible player.

“He’s always killing it on the singles court and he’s done well in the United Cup in the mixed format, so I think we have a good shot and hopefully we can make our country proud.”
