Frances Tiafoe and Sloane Stephens could not believe what Carlos Alcaraz said about his 2024 season.

The Spaniard did not have the best end to the campaign after losing early at the Paris Masters and failing to reach the last four at the ATP Finals.

But overall he had another impressive season, winning two more Grand Slam titles and an Olympic silver medal in Paris.

Alcaraz’s latest match was in an exhibition format against Frances Tiafoe but before the match took place he gave a brief review of his season.

What did Carlos Alcaraz say about his 2024 season?

Carlos Alcaraz won four titles this season, including the completion of the ‘Channel Slam’, which is known in the tennis world as winning the French Open and Wimbledon in the same season.

He won 54 matches in 2024, despite missing most of his scheduled clay court tournaments due to injury.

Dealing with injuries during the season is unusual for Alcaraz, which he explained in his press conference before the Charlotte Invitational exhibition match on Friday.

“I’m not used to dealing with so many injuries, and this year was a complicated time for me when I faced the clay season, but I ended it up good,” Alcaraz said.

“But at the same time, I look back and I think I did have a pretty good season. I’m really proud of what I did to overcome the problems that I had and the doubts that I had.

“In general I’m just happy with everything that I’ve learned this season and hopefully in 2025 I can try to copy or do even better.”

How did Frances Tiafoe and Sloane Stephens react to Carlos Alcaraz’s comments on his season?

Frances Tiafoe was at the Charlotte Invitational to play against Alcaraz, while Sloane Stephens faced Madison Keys.

Before their matches they spoke to the media and Alcaraz discussed his 2024 campaign, which he described as “challenging.”

Stephens looked perplexed, and could not believe the Spaniard’s comments given he won two Grand Slams this year.

“Really? Tell us about it, Stephens said sarcastically, before Tiafoe joked: “Tough winning two majors. He added: “I hope you don’t have a season like that again.”

On the court, Tiafoe won the Charlotte Invitational by defeating Alcaraz 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (11-9) to claim victory on home soil.

At the same event, Stephens and Keys contested an exhibition match of their own, with Keys emerging victorious 7-5, 6-3.
