Carlos Alcaraz has stated who he believes is the greatest player in the history of women’s tennis.
Alcaraz is currently at the Monte Carlo Masters, where he could lose his world number one ranking to Jannik Sinner.
Despite the pressure he is under, Alcaraz has made a winning start to his clay court season after beating Sebastian Baez in straight sets.
Alcaraz also spoke to Eurosport Spain in Monte Carlo, where he was asked to name the greatest men’s and women’s player of all time.

Alcaraz made history at the Australian Open earlier this year, becoming the youngest man to complete the Career Slam, and has already put himself in the record books.
While some believe that he could become the greatest men’s tennis player of all time in the future, Alcaraz believes that position is currently held by Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz was also asked to pick the greatest women’s tennis player of all time, to which he selected Serena Williams.

Williams won 23 Grand Slam titles in her career, which is more than any other women’s singles player in the Open Era.
When asked to pick his favorite tournament, Alcaraz could not pick between two upcoming events taking place in his country, the Barcelona Open and the Madrid Open.
Alcaraz has entered the Barcelona Open and the Madrid Open this year, having won two titles at both tournaments.
Many have called Alcaraz and Sinner’s thrilling Roland Garros final the greatest match of all time, but it appears that the man himself does not agree.
Instead, Alcaraz has opted to go with the 2008 Wimbledon final, where Rafael Nadal beat Roger Federer in four hours and 48 minutes.

The respect between Alcaraz and Williams appears to be mutual, following comments that were made from the American last year.
When receiving an award in Spain last year, Williams was asked about Alcaraz, who she was full of praise for.
“Alcaraz is doing incredible things. I’m a huge fan of Alcaraz. I always cheer him on,” said Williams.
Williams was then asked about Djokovic’s record of having 24 Grand Slams, and if she thought Alcaraz would be able to overtake him.
“At this point, anything is possible,” Williams answered. “When Federer started, no one thought he could surpass [Pete] Sampras, and he did.
“Then Rafa did the same, and then [Novak] Djokovic. Carlos is very young, he has great rivals, but of course it’s possible. Records are there to be broken.”
